Dental Implant Care & Maintenance

Dental Implant Care

Expert, personalised care to help you protect your dental implants for years to come

Dental implants can transform a person’s ability to eat, smile and feel confident. But just like natural teeth, implants require regular professional care to help keep the surrounding gums and tissues healthy.

With over 30 years of experience in dental hygiene and therapy, I provide personalised implant maintenance and oral hygiene care for patients with individual dental implants, implant-supported bridges and full-arch implant restorations.

I  have experience caring for patients with full-arch implant bridges, including All-on-4® restorations, helping patients understand how to care for their implants and maintain the health of the tissues around them.

Why is dental implant care important?

Although dental implants cannot develop tooth decay in the same way as natural teeth, the gums and bone supporting them can still be affected by inflammation and infection.

Plaque and bacteria can accumulate around implants and, if not effectively controlled, may contribute to inflammation around the implant. This can progress to conditions such as peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, which can affect the tissues and bone supporting an implant.

Regular professional maintenance, combined with effective daily home care, can therefore play an important role in maintaining the health and longevity of your implants.

What does implant care involve?

Every implant restoration is different, so your care will be tailored to your individual needs.

An implant maintenance appointment may include:

  • Assessment of your gum and implant health
  • Professional removal of plaque and calculus around implants
  • Careful cleaning around implant-supported restorations
  • Assessment of the tissues surrounding your implants
  • Personalised advice on brushes, interdental cleaning and other home-care aids
  • Advice on cleaning underneath and around implant bridges
  • Monitoring changes in your oral health over time
  • Support with maintaining healthy gums around your implants
  • Liaising with your dentist or implant team where further assessment or treatment is required

The aim is not simply to clean your implants. It is to help you understand how to care for your restoration effectively at home and identify potential problems as early as possible.

Full-Arch Implant Bridges & All-on-4®

I have experience caring for patients with full-arch implant bridges, including All-on-4® restorations.

Full-arch implant bridges require a slightly different approach to everyday dental hygiene. Because the restoration is fixed in place, there can be areas underneath and around the bridge that are more difficult to access with a conventional toothbrush.

I can show you practical techniques and recommend suitable oral hygiene aids to help you clean around your restoration effectively.

This may include guidance on:

  • Cleaning beneath the bridge
  • Using interdental brushes effectively
  • Using appropriate floss or specialist cleaning aids
  • Water flossers where appropriate
  • Cleaning around the implant connections
  • Managing plaque accumulation around the gumline
  • Recognising changes that should be brought to the attention of your dental team

Good home care, combined with regular professional maintenance, is an important part of looking after a full-arch implant restoration.

How I care for your implants

My approach is thorough but gentle. I take the time to understand your implant history, the type of restoration you have and any challenges you may be experiencing with your home care. I then tailor your appointment and advice around you.

If I identify anything that requires further investigation, I will explain my findings and liaise with your dentist or implant team where appropriate.

My role is to work as part of your wider dental team, helping you maintain excellent oral hygiene and supporting the long-term health of your implants.

Your comfort matters

Implant maintenance should feel as comfortable and reassuring as possible.

I understand that some patients may feel apprehensive about dental treatment, particularly if they have previously undergone extensive implant treatment. That’s why I place a strong emphasis on communication, comfort and working at a pace that feels right for you.

I am introducing a range of optional comfort features, including noise-cancelling headphones, your choice of music, binaural beat recordings and a weighted blanket, to help create a calmer and more personalised experience.

Protect your investment. Look after your implants.

Your implants are a significant investment in your oral health and quality of life. With the right professional maintenance and daily care, you can give your implants and surrounding tissues the best possible support.

If you have dental implants, an implant-supported bridge or a full-arch restoration such as All-on-4®, I would be delighted to help you develop a personalised maintenance routine.
